In most of occasions, I agreed on the reconciliation with oneself, especially
Seeing many people moves had made me numb, although all bring a certain level of sadness and emotion. But none is like Byron. He is too special for me, while i have always dare to let everyone know my appreciation for him, the feeling from knowing his resign is just too profound for me to express publicly. But i have to write something, to mark the feelings at a concurrent timepoint, here.
On one side, i fully support of his decision as he is at best time of career – with 20+ years experience, passions, super expertised in the area which is of utmost popularity – risk, compliance and AI. All of these should not be buried by some non-sense and company internal issues.
However if to be more personal, I do feel upset and a kind of lost someone or something that motivate me. Especially we just published what he called ‘the most impactful article our company has created in a while’, and there are quite a few on plan – as he proposed to follow up. Yet unlike anyone else departure usually with quite a decent and polite farewell, we still very much look foward to working together again – which is a pragmatic way not just saying. And with our experience in the past five and half years, the outstanding part is we always deliver what have said.

回到航运的领域,整合后,可能也是看在“Commodities”这个词的产品名称,把Commodities at Sea这个海事贸易板块的产品划给了CI,并且仅仅是这一个产品,底层的贸易数据、船舶、港口、定位,仍然留在原有的业务部门。后文再提这些。那么整合成了“航运”,包括的数据一方面有CAS这些“硬”数据,而本身SP的数据指的是什么呢?是所谓的市场估价,对航运而言,也就是运费价格,这些我也称为“软数据”,因为都是编辑团队通过和市场参与方交流最后汇总的,尽管有完善的估价方法、人群效应也的确能够反映市场状况,但毕竟它的来源和取样的条件,让价格依据仍然更建立在对“人”的依赖之上。这可能也是CAS的贸易流产生的“供需基本面”和市场运费起伏之间很难找到一个完整的故事——或者说很难互相自圆其说。当然这的确很难,其中缺失的那个“行为经济”和行业实践的环节,可能是一个诺贝尔奖问题了。客户经常提到的反馈也就是“市场端”和我们的“数据端”之间的断层;或是“信息实在太多,的确忙不过来看,但真正的预见性内容又好像缺乏”。
尤其是当整合了IHS这部分本来就是存在竞争、依靠的是软实力和数据质量等基础所在的服务时候,如果仍然用“市场地位”来谈价格,就难免碰到不奏效的情况了。可以说,IHS的存在是依靠用户认可和“口口相传”,船舶行业大家依然只知道IHS,我想在汽车、工程等板块,即使现在改弦易辙,大部分客户仍然习惯性沿用IHS来称呼。行业名声的积累不是一个简单的事情,要多少年的耕耘,而要毁掉则太过容易。更何况,通过和行业大部分企业之间这种建立在互信关系上的粘性,让我们更了解市场所需,去针对性开发产品,最典型的就是在我们从提供原始数据转型Saas产品成型之前,阿雷克斯专家大爷就通过对当时海事市场的分析、和在服务Shell等大企业的过程中所发现的未来若干年的市场风向和机会,并且很有自信地把这个汇报称为”reasons to be cheerful”,根据这些发现,开发了包括风险类的洞察、海上货流这些如今的当红炸子鸡内容,这种模式,才是是服务商与客户之间的“相互成就”。
羡慕有暑假的同志们。好在夏天还有些文体活动慰藉。儿童节当天去看了Suede,终于现场看到了brett跳舞,听到了everything will flow,在saturday night音乐中度过那个不错的周六夜晚。健身房里阿姨给的国际电影节票,陶冶一下情操,也回顾了上世纪三十年代的价值观念。六月中旬开始的欧洲杯,对德国队也已经很陌生,叫得出名字的球员也都到了退役的最后一届,却不免再一次体会了那种“一开始不抱希望,打着打着觉得有戏,最后却又什么都没有”的落差,其实并不意外,虽然首场出色,却难掩一种缺少德意志原有精神的感觉;也许遗憾只因为托马斯穆勒吧。至于英格兰,很奇怪,其他方面我都对英国很感兴趣,唯有对他们的国家队足球始终没有感觉,要说原因,我想可能是因为英格兰太会渲染,足球场外的戏太多,又总喜欢煽情一堆别的,让人感觉烦,哪怕整个足坛早就不纯粹,但他们可能是始作俑者。回想起来似乎是因为贝克汉姆时期就不喜欢他。还有很多别的,温网、银石让英格兰在每个天空体育的版面都是头条,还有巴黎奥运会开幕在即,法国的点火炬仪式应该挺有意思。在当前的大环境下,能够太平地举办盛会大概已经是万事大吉了。

Another trip in England, or more specifically, London and Hampshire, as always.
East London – Olympics effect and refreshing my attitude
Talking about East London, my memory was merely Burberry factory store, and that used to be the only reason i came to this area of London, a decade ago. Hackney, White Chapel, these places are infamous because of poor security conditions and the renowned criminal cases. But i still chose here this time to spend five nights, apart from relatively economic room rates compared to central London or west part, the curiosity and exploration were the main triggers and above all, this is where Ben lives and from. i would like to know more about this area, thus to know more about him.
The view along train line
Recalling last year Alex and I met at Blackfriars train station, assuming that is a quite typical transit station for those living at outskirts of London. I travel here to Brighton – where Stuart lives
Seagull was very strong and rude – noisily over the city’s sky. With a cloudy and windy weather, seaside view was not very nice.
Street photographers’ heaven
It is a longtime since last i took a physical camera on travel. And do find London is an ideal place for street photographer. Not only the famous skyline or buildings, but in much details, also the weather – cloudy sometimes make the light easier.
Analytics – a maritime history
Visited Canary Wharf again, and West India Quay to the London Museum Maritime branch, used to be a warehouse. Intersting the ‘ledgers house’ beside it now become a very good pub place, spatial and providing breakfast and gaming machines.
The most impressive part of the museum was the facts of merchant shipping in the past centuries – where people are so passionate in exploring and earn money but at the same time make lots of innovations and science and technologies breakthrough creations.
Regeneration of Power Station
Battersea Power Station was only known to me for Pink Floyd’s album cover – Animal, but now i am aware how significance this power station had been to British and London people. At peak capacity it served 1/5 of London power including supply to Buckingham Palace and Parliament.
Fleet Street – Commercial centre out of maritime trade
The Strand Twinings flagship store is a signpost of trading hub back three centuries, when R Twining was a tea and coffee merchant – typical commodities from the east; the building next to them is a bank. Trade and Finance were always twining together and just opposite on the street was the Court of Justice. in a wider sense the entire Fleet Street, as also noted in Peter Ackroyd’s book, London – a bibliography, was busy commercial place. And from here, I walked just a few minutes to reach St. Paul which is in the City of London.
Community Football – Leyton Orient
Football is something never could be missed out in England. During the week i visited, three big matches with Tottenham Spurs, and UEFA Championship semi-finals are all on; but also a last week for England EFL Championship league that will determine the promotion seats to Premier League next season. And this is more genuine football.
Also accidentally visited Leyton – where i know this club locates, Surprisingly even such a small club’s tour visit was fully booked if not in advance I don’t have the chance to enter the pitch. Their fan store is open and is the only place i can look around. Interestingly the ‘set’ of fan souvenir though not as mega as those big clubs, still quite decent.
The town of Leyton was only included in London borough back in 1960s. A very typical rural London place, obviously it is different from London city centre, but also not resemble where I lived – Hampshire.
Andover, I am back!
Finally, I took my own way back to Andover, and right to where my home was – Garden Close. Seems the suite is now vacant, reflecting the recession and deteriorating condition of local commercial and prosperity.
Bus 85 along the way were so familiar views of greenfield, with solar panels that i had not noticed a decade ago.
Merchant Navy in the vine – Docklands and Canary Wharf
A heritage maritime from the memorial plaza at Tower Hill and it is the first time i carefully read the words there – the peoples and the ships they are on board – all have their names on the wall.
From here taking DLR 20 min i’ll be arriving back at Canary Wharf. Compared to last time visiting London, I start to like this place better even though the wharf area is so modern, with no hints of the london landscape as familiar by public. But the ever growing and evolving nature is exactly London and representing the future and DNA of this massive and vibrant city.
